中孚是由内而发的诚信，不只是让话听起来可信。《彖传》说柔在内、刚得中，悦而能顺；卦辞的豚鱼表示连微小隐蔽的生命都能受到信的照顾。
Wind reaches across the lake. The ancient Image applies such inward trust to grave judgments: examine cases carefully and slow an irreversible sentence.
风吹泽面，影响遍及水上。《象传》将信延伸到审狱与缓死，属于古代司法语境；它要求掌权者认真核实事实，给人被听见与复核的机会，避免把表面的指控当成全部真实。
A neighborhood tool-sharing group relies on trust: members borrow and return tools promptly, help with repairs, and include even the quietest households. When a new coordinator suggests expanding to a larger network, some worry that the original spirit of care will be lost.

2. Keep the first promise · 虞吉，有他不燕。
The boatmaker keeps attention on the promised repair. Classical commentary reads yu as undivided commitment and yan as ease.
《正义》以“虞”为专一，“燕”为安。诚信初立，要能守住所应之事；图中修船人专心完成与老渔者的约定，没有被另一笔买卖拉走。
A bike mechanic promised to fix a neighbor's bike by Saturday. A stranger waves cash for a faster repair.
一位自行车修理工答应周六前修好邻居的车。一个陌生人挥着钞票要求加急修理。
The mechanic pauses, then returns to the promised wheel. Keeping the first commitment brings peace; chasing the second offer would unsettle the trust already given.
修理工犹豫片刻，然后回到承诺的那只轮子旁。守住最初的承诺带来安宁；追逐第二笔买卖会动摇已经给出的信任。
3. Let sincerity find an answer · 鳴鶴在陰，其子和之。我有好爵，吾與爾靡之。
The young crane answers a call from the shade. The word jue can evoke a valued cup or rank; classical commentary emphasizes sharing a good position or benefit rather than hoarding it.
幽处的鹤鸣仍有回应，因声出于真。《正义》把“好爵”进一步读为可与贤者共享的好位与利益，图中以一只杯具和相和的鹤表示不独占。
In a quiet kitchen, a grandmother shows her granddaughter how to knead dough. The girl listens closely and tries.
安静的厨房里，奶奶教孙女揉面团。女孩仔细听，动手尝试。
When the bread is done, they share it with a neighbor. The grandmother's sincere teaching calls out; the granddaughter's answer and the shared loaf make the trust mutual.

4. Notice when rivalry moves you · 得敵，或鼓或罷，或泣或歌。
The drumstick hangs in midair, tears run down the commander's face, a companion sings, and the rival waits. The line's alternating actions picture a person whose response is governed by the opponent rather than by a settled inner center.
《正义》将六三视为处位不当、面对对手而进退不定。画里鼓槌停在半空、人物含泪，旁边又有歌声，对手在桥那端等候；情绪越被对抗牵着走，越难保持内在的信。
At a town meeting about a park, an organizer faces a rival who wants to cut down trees.

The moon is close to full, while one horse parts from its former mate. Classical commentary treats the separation as leaving rivalry with a peer to serve a higher responsibility.

The joined hands and shared bridge work make trust continuous rather than ceremonial. A person at the center must keep faith through repeated acts, not only ask others to believe.
“攣如”在《正义》是相牵系而不断。居中心者不能只要求别人信任自己，更要以持续的中诚维系众人。
A project leader and a mason shake hands as neighbors carry planks for a footbridge. The leader works alongside them, not just directing.
项目负责人和泥瓦匠握手，邻居们搬着木板来建人行桥。负责人不是只指挥，而是和他们一起干活。
Each day they show up and do the next task. Trust is not a single promise but a chain of small, repeated acts that bind the community together.
每天他们出现，完成下一项任务。信任不是一句承诺，而是一连串微小、重复的行动，把社区连在一起。
7. Let deeds carry the claim · 翰音登于天，貞凶。
The rooster's call carries far, but the bridge remains unfinished. Classical commentary warns of sound rising while substance fails to follow.
《正义》解释为声音飞得很高，实事却没有跟上，外扬的美言掩盖内在诚信的衰退。图中鸡鸣高屋、官员指着尚未建成的桥夸口；若坚持靠声势替代履约，终不能久。
A mayor stands on a rooftop and boasts about a new bridge that is only half-built. A rooster crows nearby. Workers lean on idle tools below.
市长站在屋顶上，夸耀一座只建了一半的新桥。一只公鸡在旁边打鸣。工人们在下面靠着闲置的工具。
The mayor's loud promises rise high, but the work is not done. If he keeps performing instead of building, the trust will collapse.

8. Can your actions carry your word? · 中孚：豚魚吉，利涉大川，利貞。
Classical commentary reads the piglet and fish as humble, hidden lives. Trust is credible when its care reaches beyond the powerful or visible.
《正义》把豚与鱼看作微贱、幽隐之物：诚信若能及于它们，才不是只对重要人物表演的信用。可以涉大川，是因真实可靠的关系足以共同面对险难；但信而不正也会走偏，所以仍以贞为条件。
The final high cry warns that a loud reputation without substance cannot endure.
