1. Growth has a pace · 象曰：地中生木，升；君子以順德，積小以高大。
Pushing Upward is the growth of wood within earth: gradual, responsive, and built from small acts. The judgment allows a meeting with a capable guide and a purposeful journey.
升如树木从地中生出，靠时机、顺势与日日积累向上，并非一步登顶。卦辞说可见大人、向南行；《大象》强调积小以高大。
A tree begins below the surface. Small acts of practice and care accumulate into height; the image values steady formation as much as the visible result.
树木从地里长大，根与枝都不是一夜形成。“积小以高大”可落在学习、品行和共同事业中：看见每一步的作用，也尊重生长所需的时间。
Pushing Upward is like a tree growing from the earth: steady, season-by-season, built from small acts. A capable guide and a clear direction can help, but the climb still needs trust, sincerity, and restraint.
升卦像树木从地里长出：按季节、靠日积，慢慢向上。有明智引导和清楚方向可以前行，但上升仍需信任、诚意与节制。
2. Rise with trust · 允升，大吉。
The ascent begins with acceptance and shared trust. The helping hands show that a promising start can be supported rather than forced alone.
初爻居下，因与上方同道相允而能升。图中的援手让“允”变得可见：起步的好处来自值得信任的接纳与协力，不是独自攀高。
At the foot of the rocky path, the apprentice slips on loose shale.
在碎石坡脚，学徒一脚踩滑。
Two senior builders reach down and pull her up, saying, “Step where we step.” The ascent begins with accepted help, not solo scrambling. Refusing the offered hand would make the same slope needlessly dangerous.
两位老师傅伸手把她拉上来，说：“踩我们踩过的地方。”上升从愿意接受帮助开始，而不是独自硬爬。若推开这只手，同一段坡就会无谓地危险。
3. Sincerity without display · 孚乃利用禴，无咎。
A modest offering can carry genuine trust. The ancient rite is pictured simply so the focus stays on sincerity, not on the size of the ceremony.
九二刚中而有孚，祭礼即使简薄也不失庄重。“禴”是古代祭名；图中的小碗不是要求现代人行祭，而是用朴素动作讲清诚意胜过铺张。
Before touching the old ritual stone, the apprentice sets down a small bowl of water and grain. No grand ceremony, just a quiet promise to repair honestly.
开工前，学徒在旧祭石前放下一小碗清水和谷粒。没有盛大仪式，只有一句安静的承诺：老老实实修。
A companion stands nearby without speaking. The simple offering builds trust; going through the motions while cutting corners would break it.
同伴默默站在旁边。朴素心意能建立信任；若表面行礼、背地偷工，信任就会断。
4. Enter the opening · 升虛邑。
The empty town offers no immediate resistance. A clear opening can be used, but an open gate is a circumstance, not a license for recklessness.
“虚邑”不是夺城的号令，而是前方没有抵挡，进路豁然打开。图里城门大开、街道无人，让机遇清楚可见；有路可走仍要留意身后是否跟得上。
The crew reaches a quiet walled town. Its gate stands open, no guard blocks the road, and the empty streets offer an easy way through.
队伍来到一座安静的石围小镇。城门大开，没有守卫拦路，空街上一条顺畅的路伸向前方。
The apprentice wants to rush ahead. An open gate is an opportunity, not permission to ignore supplies, weather, or the people following behind.
学徒想赶快冲过去。门开着是机会，不是忽视补给、天气和身后同伴的理由。
5. Receive ascent with respect · 王用亨于岐山，吉无咎。
The king's offering at Mount Qi belongs to an ancient ritual setting. The bow and the people approaching show authority receiving change with respect rather than blocking those who rise.
“亨于岐山”是古礼和王者承命的场景。画面把岐山、王的俯身及来者放在同一视线里：居高位的人若以敬慎承接上升者，礼才不流于空壳。
At a small altar beneath the ridge called Qishan, the town’s elected head bows over a simple offering. Attendants and local walkers come up the hill.
在叫岐山的山脊下，一座小祭坛前，镇里选出的负责人向简单祭品俯身。随行人员和本地行山者一同上山。
Authority receives the restoration with respect, not as a claim of ownership. If the leader took all credit or blocked residents, the ritual would become an empty shell.
掌权者以敬重承接众人的修路成果，而不是把它占为己有。若负责人独揽功劳或拦住居民，礼就成了空壳。
6. Climb step by step · 貞吉，升階。
The staircase gives ascent a visible rhythm. Hold to a sound course and take the next step; a high place reached too quickly can lack the foundation to support it.
六五处中位，升阶而不是跳阶。正道与节奏让上升有根基；画面保留一整段台阶，人物只跨当前一级，使每一步的分量清楚。
Now leading a small crew, the apprentice climbs the long stone staircase to the open hall.
如今带着一小队人，学徒走上通往敞厅的长石阶。
Each block is a separate step; she takes one, then the next, checking that the volunteers behind can follow. The sound course is steady ascent. Skipping steps might look fast until the foundation cracks.
每块条石都是一级；她走一级，再走一级，回头确认后面的人跟得上。守正就是稳稳上升。连跳几级看着快，根基却容易裂。
7. Keep purpose in view · 冥升，利于不息之貞。
The climber can keep moving, but darkness makes direction uncertain. Unceasing effort is valuable when it remains anchored in integrity; endless pursuit of rank is not the same as growth.
上升到顶点，若仍在昏暗中只顾往上，便容易失去方向。“不息之贞”宜放在持续修德和明辨上，而不是无止境地争名位。
After dark, under moonlight, the weary climber edges along a narrow ledge, one hand on rock, a small lamp beside her.
天黑后，月光下，疲惫的登山者沿着狭窄山檐侧身挪步，一手扶岩，身旁一盏小灯。
She still wants to push for the summit and the praise waiting there. Unceasing effort is worthwhile when it stays anchored in integrity. In darkness, climbing harder is not the same as climbing wisely.
她仍想冲向山顶和等在那里的称赞。不停努力若扎根于正道，就有价值。黑暗中，越爬越猛，不等于越爬越明。
8. What is your next sound step? · 升：元亨，用見大人，勿恤，南征吉。
A capable guide and a clear direction make growth possible. The ancient southward journey expresses a purpose that can now be acted on; it is not a promise that any ambitious push will succeed.
“见大人”是寻找能识人、能相助的明智引导；“南征”属于古代方向语言，重点是志向可以付诸行动。成长顺时而行，也需有人相应，不是孤独硬闯。
