1. Small restraints, steady growth ·

Small Taming is not forceful control.

A village decides to restore an old community bread oven. They have big dreams of a bakery, but first they must repair the oven with small, careful steps.

The Image gives us a clue: Wind moves above Heaven: Small Taming. The noble one refines the ornament of culture and virtue. We will read the six lines from the ground upward.

2. Return to the path ·

A traveler meets a check in the road and turns back onto firm ground. Small restraint prevents a larger mistake.

The first foundation hole collapses. Instead of forcing concrete into wet ground, the group pauses. They return to the original plan: a higher, drier spot. It feels like a small step back, but the oven will stand safely. They guide the work like sheep back to the path.

When checked, return to the sound path instead of forcing the way. When have you forced a plan that needed a simpler start?

3. Draw back together ·

At the fork, two travelers take each other's hands and return together. One person's good sense helps the other turn around.

The mason and potter disagree over the oven's arch. Each defends a different material until they realize both skipped a load test. They step back together, reopen the drawings, and build a small trial arch using both kinds of stone. Neither merely yields; they pull one another back to sound work.

Where could two people help each other return to a better process instead of arguing over whose idea wins?

4. Repair the structure ·

The wagon's spokes break, and husband and wife accuse each other beside it. Repairing the shared vehicle comes before blame.

The new chimney cracks in a windstorm. Two close friends, who planned this oven together, start blaming each other. 'You rushed the mortar!' 'You chose weak bricks!' The cart's spokes have broken. They stop arguing and inspect the design. Only by fixing the structure can they fix their trust.

When the inner structure fails, even close partners turn against one another. When a project breaks down, do you repair the structure or attack each other?

5. Sincerity relieves ·

A frightened companion sees a sincere gesture and steps back from danger. Trust lowers the alarm that force would deepen.

After the quarrel, the mason returns with a small bandage for the potter's cut hand. 'I was scared, so I attacked your idea,' she says. 'Let's test the mortar together.' They set aside tools like weapons. The injury heals, and the alarm in the group fades. Sincere words let danger recede.

Sincere conduct lets danger and alarm recede. What honest words could lower the alarm in a tense situation?

6. Prosper together ·

Neighbors pool their stores rather than guard each small pile. The reserve grows because trust is shared.

The oven works. The group bakes more bread than they can eat. Instead of selling all of it, they set up a table at the market pavilion and share loaves with neighbors. The baker teaches a child to shape dough. Wealth grows when it is linked to the neighborhood. Trust binds them like the oven's arch.

Real accumulation is not solitary. How could your small success also benefit the people around you?

7. Know when to rest ·

After the clouds finally give rain, the group pauses. A full reserve can be spent badly if one keeps pushing outward.

The oven is famous. A neighboring town invites them to build another bakery. They pack their cart, but dark clouds gather. 'The moon is nearly full,' the elder says. 'A wise traveler seeks shelter now, not a new road.' They stay, improve their recipes, and wait. Rushing would overextend the small strength they gathered.

The reserve has begun to bear fruit, but nearing fullness calls for proportion. Where might pausing protect the strength you have already gathered?

8. What can you strengthen in small steps? ·

Potential is gathering but has not yet become action.

It gathers strength through a modest, well-placed restraint while the larger moment is still forming.

Ask yourself: Where in your life are you trying to force a big result before its time? What small, steady step could help you gather strength instead?
